Katrina Kaif too hot for the censor board!

Filed under: Bollywood TV — admin @ 8:57 am

Bollywood News:  Bollywood Movie ‘Raajneeti’ has finally got a UA certificate but not without some vital scenes, including Arjun Rampal and Katrina Kaif’s “aesthetically shot love making scene” that director Prakash Jha says was “absolutely essential”, being edited out.

“It was a very aesthetically shot love making scene. Arjun and Katrina are two very beautiful people. And they made love to the camera. The Tribunal (Film Certification Appellate Tribunal) felt it was a bit too explicit for a ‘UA’ audience. I didn’t argue,” Prakash Jha told reporters in an interview.

Prakash Jha’s weeklong battle with the censor board ended on Wednesday with the Film Certification Appellate Tribunal in New Delhi viewing Raajneeti and granting it a ‘UA’ certificate.

The director had challenged the censor board’s decision earlier last week to grant Raajneeti an ‘A’ certificate with cuts. Prakash Jha sees the reduction of the Katrina-Ranbir love making scene as a blow.

“The love scene was absolutely essential. Unlike other directors I had not shot extra footage so that the censors could take away whatever portion they liked. I had shot the love making scene exactly the way it was meant to be. I’ve had to reduce it by half.

“It’s a disappointment to all of us. I’ve also had to beep out the F word uttered by Ranbir Kapoor and Arjun Rampal in two different places in the plot. Ex-justice Usha Mehra, who headed the Tribunal, requested me to do away with the F word. But it didn’t make a difference,” he said.

Bollywood Actors Ajay Devgan, Naseeruddin Shah, Nana Patekar and Manoj Bajpai too will be seen in Raajneeti. Releasing June 4, the political thriller will be the behind-the-scenes look at politics, strategies behind election campaigns, scandals and much more.

Apparently, the censor board had earlier objected to two sequences – one showing the rigging of elections by fitting ballot boxes with specially designed gadgets and the other showing a female politician offering sex in exchange for an election ticket.

“An ‘A’ certificate brings on a specific mindset on the audience. They think the film has sleazy content. So I preferred to let the film be referred to the Tribunal,” said Jha.

Also Arjun’s volatile character in Raajneeti shouts lurid and graphic expletives in Hindi at a police officer. These remain intact while the ‘f’ word is gone.

Several recent Hindi films like Omkara and Ishqiya were plastered with expletives but got away at the censors with an A certificate.

Aishwarya Rai and Akshay Kumar in Action Replayy

Filed under: Bollywood TV — admin @ 8:57 am

Bollywood Gossip: Bollywood Actor Akshay Kumar says that Action Replayy is his first romantic comedy with Aishwarya Rai and he was blushing through the making of the retro movie.
“It is my fifth film with director Vipul Shah and definitely another one to remember. Ash and I had a brief romantic interlude in Rajkumar Santoshi`s Khakee, but Action Replayy is our first romantic comedy together. Believe me, I was blushing through the making,” Akshay said in a statement.

“There`s a lot I wish to tell my audience about. But Vipul wants me to keep things under wraps for the moment.”

Akshay
says he was thrilled to be a part of Action Replayy that is set in the 1970s when his father-in-law Rajesh Khanna was hailed as the first superstar.

“It`s a very special film for me for many reasons. This is my tribute to the 1970s that was the greatest retro era. I was kicked with the idea because I`m entering the time in cinema where my father-in-law was a superstar,” said Akshay.

“Action Replayy is all about rewinding your life and the film is said to be high on style quotient and emotionally rewarding too.

“It is a fun-genre romantic film,” said Bollywood Actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

The film revolves around Kishen and Mala – two bickering senior citizens who rediscover romance on their 33rd wedding anniversary, when their son gets them into rewind mode.

Shah, who had a blast making Action Replayy, said: “Akki (Akshay) and I have an impeccable box office record. We enjoyed success with Aankhen, Waqt – Race Against Time, Namastey London and Singh is Kinng. “Action Replayy is a film where the two of us return after a gap of almost three years. And believe me, it is a great way to return.”

The film caters to the sensibilities of the young generation.

“For me, it was an exciting experience because I could bring together Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Akshay Kumar, a pair I had been wanting to cast for sometime now. They`re both good looking, super-talented and what`s more, they`re fashion icons as well. Akki has made an amazing screen pair with some of the existing girls but believe me, he and Ash are extra special,” said Shah.

‘Kites’ Is 1st Bollywood Film in U.S., Canada Top 10

Filed under: Bollywood TV — admin @ 8:57 am

Bollywood News: “Kites,” the adventure Bollywood Movie from Mumbai-based Reliance Big Pictures, took in almost $1 million during the weekend to become the first Bollywood movie to open in the top 10 in the U.S. and Canada.

The film, introduced in 207 theaters, had sales of $958,673, researcher Hollywood.com Box-Office said yesterday in an e-mail. Billionaire Anil Ambani’s Reliance said in a statement that no other Indian film has opened in the top 10.

Reliance Big is expanding its U.S. presence. Last year, the company agreed to invest $325 million for an equity stake in Steven Spielberg’s DreamWorks Studios. “Kites” follows two immigrants, one from Mexico and the other from India, who go on the run to escape a vengeful Las Vegas casino owner.

At least one other Indian-produced film had a bigger U.S. opening than “Kites.” “My Name is Khan” produced by Mumbai- based Dharma Productions and released by Fox Searchlight, took in $1.94 million in February. The film ranked 13th in a weekend lineup that included “Valentine’s Day,” “The Wolfman” and “Avatar,” according to researcher Box Office Mojo.

Audiences will get a different look at “Kites” on May 28 when Reliance releases “Kites: The Remix,” a shorter version of the film edited by U.S. director Brett Ratner.

The original is “long and has a lot of dancing and extra stuff. It’s Bollywood and it works for that audience,” Ratner said in a telephone interview. “I just streamlined it and stuck with the love story, which works so well.”

Ratner, whose credits include “Rush Hour,” trimmed “Kites” to 90 minutes from 130 and changed some of the background music, Reliance said in a May 11 statement.

No Bachchan show for IIFA Awards 2010

Filed under: Bollywood TV — admin @ 8:57 am

Bollywood Gossip: The Bollywood 2010 IIFA Awards are scheduled to take place between June 3 – 5 in Sri Lanka’s capital, Colombo, but it looks like the star power will be significantly reduced at this year’s IIFA Awards ceremony to be held June 3 – June 5 at Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo as the royal couple of Bollywood, Abhishek Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan wont be attending it. As per the latest buzz in Bollywood Abhishek and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are so busy working that they won’t be able to attend.

According to Aishwarya’s spokesperson “she is going for a Longines (international watch brand which the actress promotes) commitment to Paris where she will be attending the French open.” And while the former Miss World will be away in Paris, her hubby will be in Istanbul shooting his new movie “Game.”

As if Abhishek and Ash’s absence wasn’t not bad enough, rumors in the Bollywood Industry have it Amitabh Bachchan will not be there either, but for different reasons. Big B, who together with his son have been IIFA brand ambassadors for years, might stay home due to the demonstrations by Tamil groups in Mumbai that have taken place outside his house to protest that Colombo has been chosen as the venue to hold the event.

This is not the first time the Bachchan Family have chosen to stay away from award events. After the Mumbai Mirror, a leading newspaper agency claimed that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan cannot conceive because of her stomach tuberculosis and that the she is trying to hide the truth. Abhishek, Aishwarya and Big B decided to boycott the Filmfare Awards last March.

After learning about the newspaper, they never offered an apology. Instead, they chose to walk out of the ceremony.
Well this time things are different as they are both busy working, but we wonder when Bollywood will see its biggest stars make an appearance at an award event next? Do you want to see Abhishek and Aishwarya at the IIFA Weekend? Drop us your comments below:

I never wanted to be anonymous: Shah Rukh Khan

Filed under: Bollywood TV — admin @ 8:57 am

Bollywood Gossip: Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan loves his celebrity  status and admits he would never want to live without it even for a few moments.

I don’t want to be anonymous… I’m very honest about that. I love being recognised, I love people liking me, I love the fact that people scream when I go out, I think I’ll miss all that when it’s taken away, and I don’t even think about it,” said Shah Rukh in an interview to CNN’s Talk Asia.

“I think that’s why I work harder every year, every day, every month and every moment. I’m not standing and counting the people outside my house, but I don’t want them to lessen,” he added.

When Shah Rukh came to Mumbai in 1991 to make it big in Bollywood, he had no film background. But with his sheer hardwork and determination, the actor hit the bull’s eye.

His popularity soared high with Bollywood  blockbusters like Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, Baazigar, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai, Darr, Pardes, Dil Toh Pagal Hai and Chak De! India.

Even though the 44-year-old Bollywood Actor never wants people’s focus to shift from him, he says inherently he is a shy person.

“I’m basically shy and I have to really prepare myself to go and let myself go on a set. There are certain things I started, I tried them and then I started feeling very awkward doing them … like laughing on screen.

“I find it extremely odd to laugh on screen. I find it extremely odd to use bad language so I don’t do a film like that… kissing and love making (on screen) is the other thing, because I just find it odd,” said the bollywood superstar who is currently working on his film Ra.One.
